What is the Grabyo transcriber?
Conventional editing tools lack a seamless way to transcribe captions. With Grabyo transcriber, we aim to make transcribing captions quick and easy for users.
Grabyo transcriber will be an integrated UI within Grabyo Editor. This will be achieved by taking the effective aspects of transcription from conventional editing platforms and placing them within more modern workflows in the cloud.
Grabyo users will further benefit by being able to choose how to export this data. Closed captions will be available in September, and open captions using our templating feature will be coming in Q4.
How does it work?
Closed captions can be accessed via the navigation bar on the right-hand side. To create a new closed caption, drag a closed captions item onto the timeline. Once you drag the item onto the timeline, a new closed captions layer will be shown at the top of your timeline.
When you drop an item into the captions layer, you will be presented with the Grabyo transcriber in the sidebar.
To start typing simply click within the transcription box and start writing out your captions. To control the preview player while typing we suggest you use keyboard shortcuts to play/pause (tab) and go back 3 seconds (shift + tab).
Tip: To see more keyboard controls for transcription, click on the keyboard at the bottom of the transcriber sidebar.
Note: When exporting from Editor the captions in this layer will be exported as both VTT and SRT files. They will be downloadable from the Campaign and will be exported automatically to supported social networks and OVPs. This is an automatic process so please make sure that your captions are correct before exporting.
Automated speech to text
If your account has been enabled for speech to text, Grabyo Editor will automatically transcribe selected clips. You then have the ability to extract captions from these videos, edit the text, and place them within in your edit.
Once an asset has finished processing in the asset library it will send a request to generate captions data. When an asset is generating captions it will display an orange CC logo in the card as can be seen here. Once the captions are ready to be used the logo will turn white.
To use the captions in your time, add the asset to the timeline and you will get a new option when you right-click the asset to extract the captions. Clicking this will add the automated captions to the captions layer.
